What HTML2Liquid is

HTML2Liquid is a free set of Shopify theme-development tools: a deterministic HTML-to-section converter, an optional AI-assisted converter, a visual section-schema builder, a Liquid cheatsheet with a learning playground, and an original tutorial library.

It was created to reduce the repetitive first pass of turning a static design fragment into merchant-editable Liquid. The project keeps that generated code visible and copyable so a developer can inspect the content model instead of treating conversion as a black box.

Who maintains it

Lavkush Varma builds and maintains the application and its documentation. Work represented in this repository includes HTML parsing, Liquid generation, section schema, blocks, image handling, authentication, accessibility improvements, automated tests, and Shopify theme-development tutorials.

How guidance is checked

Tutorials are written around reproducible examples, validated with automated JSON and Liquid checks where possible, and linked to relevant Shopify developer documentation. Platform behavior can change, so readers should confirm version-sensitive rules in the official documentation and a development theme.

Project limitations

  • Static HTML cannot describe a theme's existing CSS, JavaScript, snippets, translations, app blocks, or resource data.
  • Repeated markup can suggest a block model, but only the developer knows whether the correct source is a section block, theme block, collection, metafield, or metaobject.
  • Generated code is not guaranteed to work without review, and AI-assisted output can contain invalid or unsuitable choices.
  • The cheatsheet playground uses mock data and a learning-oriented Liquid runtime; it is not a substitute for Shopify's storefront renderer.
